About Asylum Windsor
Asylum Windsor is a seven-member, voting, not-for-profit arts and music collective based in Windsor, Ontario. The flagship event is a free dance event held the first Saturday of each month. Additional events such as art shows, training events, concerts, and performance art also occur with the intention of increasing the frequency. Asylum also has a radio show broadcast on 99.1FM CJAM Windsor-Detroit.
The collective presents dark alternative music, visual art, performance, and community-based cultural programming, with a focus on goth, industrial, post-punk, darkwave, and related underground genres.
The collective’s work is rooted in accessible cultural programming, fair treatment of artists, community participation, and the development of a sustainable live and pre-recorded music infrastructure for underserved alternative music communities in Windsor while striving to cultivate an environment of inclusion.
As an overarching term, Asylum means sanctuary—an inviolable place of refuge, protection, or shelter.
Asylum is a place for those who seek it.
